BENEFITS CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
May 13-14 brought the Benefits Conference of the South (BCOS) to the DoubleTree Atlanta-Buckhead hotel. The conference provided an opportunity for practitioners to discuss employee benefits issues with colleagues and local, regional and national government representatives from the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor, as well as private sector experts. The program focused on exchanging information and educating attendees about current regulatory, legislative, administrative, and actuarial topics.
During the conference, Ilene Ferenczy co-presented “Fiduciary Fallout: Educating Clients on Fiduciary Duties and Protecting Yourself” with Fred Wong of the DOL, and also co-presented a session entitled “Let Me Fix That For You: Plan Corrections Without Super Glue and Duct Tape” with George Patterson of the IRS.

PENSION COUNCIL OF THE MIDLANDS
The Pension Council of the Midlands sponsored a full-day seminar on May 12 near Omaha, Nebraska, at which Ilene Ferenczy presented a program focusing entirely on recent legislative and regulatory updates. The group explored these issues and the impact they will have on various aspects of plan management and necessary benefits program changes. The session ended with a challenging game of “Pension Jeopardy.”

PLAN MANAGER WORKSHOP
On April 27, Ilene Ferenczy was part of a panel presenting at a full-day benefits workshop sponsored by the (k)larity group titled “Retirement Plan Management Made Easy.” The workshop focused on practical information and solutions to common problems that plan managers face.

"KEEPING CURRENT" UP-TO-THE MINUTE GOVERNMENT AND REGULATORY OVERVIEW
On November 1-4, 2009, during the ASPPA Annual Conference in Washington, DC, Ilene Ferenczy co-presented "Keeping Current" (a comprehensive, up-to-the-minute government and regulatory overview, with Derrin Watson of SunGard Relius) and serving on a panel of experts presiding over an Internal Revenue Service Q&A session.

403(b) SEMINAR- TIPS ON OPERATING 403(b) PLANS
On April 27, Matt Cristy advised employers with 403(b) plans on how to stay on top of plan operational requirements at a seminar presented by a local CPA firm. Matt's presentation, "I Have a Written Plan Document, What More Do You Want?" was designed to help employers understand how to operate their plans in compliance with their documents and the new tax rules that apply to 403(b) plans. Two CPAs with the sponsoring firm also presented programs for employers with Section 403(b) plans: "Overcoming the Challenges of Your First 403(b) Audit," and "The New Form 5500--Are you ready to e-file?" EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION PRESENTATION
On March 10, Matt Cristy taught junior benefits professionals the basics of executive compensation as part of Benefits Boot Camp 2010. The Atlanta Chapter of Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB) presented the one-day benefits fundamentals seminar at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS (NIPA) BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE
On January 11, Ilene Ferenczy presented “Fee Disclosure and Liability” to the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA) Business Management Conference at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, Scottsdale, Arizona. NIPA noted that this is the only conference available focused on the business aspects of running a TPA company and specifically addressing the unique needs of TPA business owners and executives by providing top-notch education and opportunities for attendees to network and share business success stories.
